Raffle prizes, face painting, and other activities will be available at Sunoco’s fundraiser for Spencer’s fire and police departments between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 30 at 73 W Main St, Spencer.
“We wanted to create something that families could enjoy while also doing something meaningful for the people who do so much for our community,” Sam Taher, the owner of Sunoco, said in a statement to the Spencer Journal. Taher said he learned the importance of supporting others from growing up in a “very tight-knit community where people look out for each other” in Lebanon.
Sunoco’s manager, Kelley Finney, has taken the lead on planning from spreading the word to involving local businesses. “[Taher] really thrives himself on giving back to the community,” she said. The company held a customer appreciation day in the past which received positive feedback.
A golf fundraiser for the fire and police associations that invited Sunoco as a sponsor inspired the company to take it a step further by throwing their own event. Excluding the sales local vendors make on their products, all proceeds are being donated to Spencer fire and police departments.
The event will have a DJ and photo booth for attendees. A fire truck and police car will be on display along with cartoon Paw Patrol character Marshall, a fire fighter dalmatian, making an appearance from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, and fresh lemonade will be available for refreshments. Attendees can participate in face painting and temporary tattoos from Lochness Monster Tattoos and Kelley Anne Photography. Those who buy raffle tickets have the chance to win prizes such as a Red Sox and Coca-Cola themed beach chair or a blowup paddle board. Harry’s Homemade Crafts will be selling wooden American flags along with other vendors offering different products.
