SPENCER – During a brief meeting on September 3, the Board of Water Commissioners voted to raise rates by 5% for water users in town effective October 1.
What this means is that more than half the users (1,016) or 54% of the base, will get a minimum bill of $157.50 per 1,500 cubic feet/per meter or service, up from $150.
For the next 1,500 cubic feet used, the fee will be $7.85, an increase from $7.48. This change affects 31% of the base or 573 users.
Thereafter, the fee of $8.67 applies for the next 3,000 cubic feet used, affecting 193 users or 11% of the base. That amount is up from $8.26.
For the next 2,000 cubic feet used, the charge is $9.26 (previously $8.82), impacting 27 users or 1.5% of the base.
Finally, the fee for above 8,000 cubic feet used increases to $10.14 (previously $9.66), which represents 3% of the base or 52 users.
Permit inspection fees are $150 for all renewals, repair or new installations.
The rates support the water enterprise fund which is separate from the town’s general fund and designed to be self-sufficient.
