Friends of the Struppa family in Spencer have set up a GoFundMe  at Go-Fund-Me called ‘Seppe Strong.’

on behalf of 11-year-old Guiseppe, who is battling a rare form of brain cancer.

About a year ago, Guiseppe was diagnosed with Diffuse Midline Glioma when doctors found a tumor on his brain.

Since that diagnosis, he has had three brain surgeries with weeks of radiation and has soldiered on, until recently, doing what he loves—playing hockey for the Worcester Junior Crusaders.

His parents, Mike and Lisa, have been traveling around the world to find medications and/or clinical trials or therapies to fight this rare cancer.

In addition to raising money to defray medical bills, his father said they are also hoping to raise awareness about this type of cancer and highlight the difficulties of getting insurance companies to cover costs for things like medications.

Struppa is an Army veteran and Sturbridge’s director of Veterans services. He has also been a firefighter in Southbridge for the past decade.

Lisa is a high school art teacher. She provides updates on her son’s condition, the last of which appeared on August 19.

“It’s been a tough few weeks for our brave Seppe. Right before the boys’ birthday party, we received the heartbreaking news from Giuseppe’s MRI; his cancer has spread in both his brain and spine. On top of this, Seppe has been experiencing episodes of confusion and has fainted multiple times. Because that wasn’t enough stress, this past Sunday (August 4), he had a seizure and was rushed to UMASS University Hospital, followed by a transfer via Life Flight ground ambulance to Boston Children’s Hospital, where he has been an inpatient ever since.”

The family is now awaiting test results to find out what the next step in his treatment plan will be. Lisa wrote that his treatment will likely involve more radiation and clinical trials.

Guiseppe’s supporters, which include his brother Dom, ask for your support, including continued prayers as the family faces these challenges.
