SPENCER – An incident Thursday at Knox Trail Middle School has been deemed a personnel matter, School Superintendent Paul Haughey said on Friday.

“I am unable to discuss it,” Haughey said, adding that there is no risk to students.

“Safety is a priority in our district,” Haughey said.

He declined to comment on specifics of the incident.

The Spencer Police Department’s log indicates that a parent called on Thursday and reported that her daughter had been grabbed by a school employee.

Police Chief Michael Befford said the department’s school resource officer was made aware of the situation and the parent was referred to school officials which would be the first step in such cases.

Befford referred other questions to Haughey.
