SPENCER – A new American flag will fly atop a new flag pole at the Old Cemetery after Selectmen agreed to a $13,000 expenditure from the town’s American Rescue Plan Act funding.
The board said the $13,000 would also cover the cost of updating the rotunda in Town Hall, which currently lacks a panel listing the names of those Spencer residents who served in the War on Terror.
Other Veterans‘ names not added from previous eras will also be included in the updates.
The money will also pay for new mounting hardware and flags for the street flag project, officials said.
The funds will come from the $3,567,453 in American Rescue Plan Act funding the town received after President Joe Biden signed the act into law in March of 2021. The funds were designed to assist cities and towns during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
