SPENCER/EAST BROOKFIELD — David Prouty High School senior Morgan Kates was among more than 75 high-achieving students recognized at the annual Worcester County Superintendents’ Association Scholars’ Luncheon, held Thursday, March 27 at the Hogan Center at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.

Kates, who serves as DPHS class of 2025 president and vice president of the Student Council, was selected as the 2025 Scholar Award recipient for the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and a captain of the school’s track and field team.

Superintendent of Schools Paul Haughey praised Kates for her academic and leadership accomplishments, calling her a role model for peers and a standout representative for the school community.

“Morgan has shown commitment, character, and compassion in everything she does,” Haughey said. “We are incredibly proud of her and all she’s achieved.”

The luncheon included remarks from Worcester County Superintendents’ Association President Amy McKinstry and a keynote address by Carolyn Casey, founder of Project 351, a statewide youth service initiative.

Outside of the classroom, Kates has danced since the age of three and plans to pursue a career in nursing. She will attend Boston College this fall, with hopes of becoming a nurse practitioner.
