SPENCER – Excitement is building in anticipation of the Spencer Fair, which runs from August 29 to September 1 and features carnival rides, food, entertainment, exhibits, competitions and more.

The family event will offer longtime favorites like its demolition derby, tractor pull, giant pumpkin weigh off and lumberjack contest as well as a Farmer’s Market and cattle and poultry shows. A full list of activities can be found at www.spencerfair.org.

Whether visiting booths with local vendors or indulging in an array of foods and beverages, the fair, in its 129th year, is geared toward visitors of all ages.

Hours for the weekend are as follows:

Thursday–Carnival rides only from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday & Saturday—Fair gates open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., with buildings opening 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the carnival running 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Sunday the hours are the same except for the carnival being open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Finally, on Monday, Labor Day, the Spencer Fair concludes with the hours as follows: Fair gates, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., buildings, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and carnival, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Cattle Barn and Agricultural Center closes at 4 p.m. and vendor breakdown is at 6 p.m.

General admission tickets are $18 per person at the gate. Advance sales end on Wednesday, August 27 at the close of business.

For senior citizens (age 62+), military members and children ages seven to 12, the cost is $12. Admission is free for children under seven and $7 per person from group homes.

Weekend passes are available for $45. Parking is free.

On the Main Stage, live entertainment will be featured by tribute bands like King Size Cash with Robert Black (Johnny Cash); Strictly Sinatra (Rat Pack); Lisa Carter (Cher); Nicole Fuller (Lady Gaga); Sweet Hitch Hiker (Creedence Clearwater Revival) and Great Escape (Journey).

Additional headlining performers are Houston Bernard, The Pub Kings, Irving Lewis and the RSVP Band, Cobblestone Road and Dan Candell, hypnotist.

For aspiring singers, a karaoke contest will take place over the weekend as well.

On the grounds on all four days will be entertainers like the Jolley Clown Family, Kodiak Carving, Pirate Man Dan and The Magic of Conjuring Carroll.

A complete listing and schedule can be found on the fair’s website.

The police and highway departments worked out a new traffic plan to help alleviate congestion leading to and departing from the fairgrounds at 48 Smithville Road. However, travelers can still expect to encounter traffic tie-ups and are asked to be patient.

Signage and police will assist motorists and updates are given on social media.

No pets are allowed at the Spencer Fair except service dogs.

Other items prohibited at the event include weapons, laser points, coolers, outside alcohol beverages and large bags. Bags are subject to searches.
