SPENCER – The Cultural Council will celebrate area volunteers with a concert from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 19, 2023) at Spencer Town Hall.
The event, according to organizer Carol McPherson, is meant to celebrate “anyone and everyone who volunteers” in any capacity.
“I’m a big supporter of volunteers and I feel they should be thanked a lot more than they are,” McPherson said.
When she learned that the Cultural Council, of which she is a member, could use some of its funding for a community event, the volunteer appreciation day began to take form.
There was some wrangling through the logistics, including finding gifts from local shops to present to the first 100 volunteers who enter.
McPherson said she initially wanted to buy something from most town businesses but the process became unwieldy and she was thankful when Jim Devereux of Oakwood Farm Christmas Barn agreed to help.
Devereux found holiday items in the council’s price range and also donated a $50 gift certificate to his shop which will be the prize in a free raffle for all the volunteers.
The concert will feature Chuck & Mud and the Hole in the Dam Band.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and volunteers from any area towns are invited to bring a guest.
This event is sponsored and funded by the Spencer Cultural Council.
